Yes, iniquitous. It is quite obvious that, when people have a recent history of CCJs etc, they have problems with debt and these sharks just prey on them.

I'd like to see a few financial controls brought in if the ex-Chancellor can see his way clear to helping us instead of just concentrating on dipping our pockets.

For a start I believe there needs to be a legally enforced maximum multiplier for interest rates, i.e. the rate charged may not exceed the base rate multiplied by this figure, failure to comply being a criminal offence. This I hope would make it possiible for the police to go after moneylenders in ways they cannot at present.

Also, I'd like to see the minimum payment rate raised so that credit-card debt is reduced more quickly. At present, I think it is 2/5 whereas originally it was 10/10. Personally I believe we should to get back to 10/10 but that's probably impossible in the short term because people would find it too difficult to manage but certainly we could increase by stages, e.g. to start with 5/5: min amount of 5% of balance or £5 whichever is greater.

Possibly unsolicited loan offers should either be illegal or (maybe better) the loans resulting should not be binding.
