Australian Rules.

by joebangles @ 02/08/2007 - 17:08:58

Maybe they should be the British Rules.

Prime Minister John Howard angered some Australian Muslims
on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's
mosques.

Quote: "IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I
am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some
individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we
have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.
"However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the
'politically correct'
crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was
offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge
against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia.
"However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to
our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand."This
idea of Australia being a multi-cultural community has served only to
dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. And as Australians, we
have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own
lifestyle. "This culture has been developed over two centuries of
struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have
sought freedom. "We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese,
Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if
you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language! "Most
Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing,
political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on
Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly
documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of
our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another
part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.
"We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is
that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with
us. "If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like "A Fair Go",
then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this
planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and
we really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all
means, keep your culture, but do not force it on others. "This is OUR
COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every
opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining,
whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs,
or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other
great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'. "If you aren't happy
here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here.
So accept the country YOU accepted. "Maybe if we circulate this amongst
ourselves, BRITISH citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and
voicing the same truths!
If you agree please SEND THIS TO EVERYBODY YOU KNOW!

Did he say this? BLOL..if he did, because there's probably a huge number of people over here who would say goodonyer for putting it so plainly...hate to remind him of what happened to the aborigines and still is with his Christian morality when the settlers arrived and got established, but I suppose that's laid aside now that the problems hidden away...I find it very frustrating to discover that parts of it, I agree with because that's so open to misinterpretation...but I do...my biggest bugbear here is honour killings...I'm absolutely outraged that people come to our country and murder their children on our soil for some appallingly misguided notion of honour...I would have no qualms using draconian methods to stamp that out and what we do now isn't nearly sufficient because it's still going on even with long prison sentences being doled out...must stop now, getting angry just thinking about it :-/ Good post...very thought provoking...

If he said this he is right on the mark. I hope there is not a backlash against him. I wish we took a stand similar to this, England/Britain has become so PC, and the PC brigade forget they are in a country where they can freely express their views and practice whatever religion they want without being penalised. There are plenty of countries with other religions, but I doubt they are all so liberal with what you can and cant do! And any religion that expects girls to cover up so men arent tempted deserves some contempt in my view.

Absolutely!! What on earth happened to the "when in Rome" rule? You can bet your bottom dollar that if we were bonkers enough to move to a non-christian country WE would be the ones forced to conform. If people are so disappointed/frightened by their own countries/cultures to move in the first place, seeking sollace then they must expect to embrace that country's customs, and by that I don't mean lose their identities and religious beliefs but for goodness sake get some perspective. PC and all that goes with it has just about gone too far, but fear not these things usually come full circle in the end. Maybe we just need to be patient

I'm all for integration and I enjoy living in a multicultural society, but I do feel things have gone too far in the UK.

I know of Asian families where mothers have failed to learn English, despite being here for many years, and keep their children out of school to act as translators should the need arise.

I'm not against immigration at all, but people should want to live here because they appreciate our laws and customs, not because they see us as a soft touch.

However, I fear that things have gone to far now for us to do an about turn.

Another reason why I'd jump at the chance to live Down Under.

G'day.

I'm a Brit who is going to teach English in Thailand in a few weeks time. I've been over once and one of the reasons I love the place is because of the people. I've bought a book on how to survive culture shock and to INTEGRATE into the Thai way of life. I have yet to find a book that tells me how to push my own views on the Thai population. Although I'm not going to speak fluently I'm trying to learn the language so I can at least show my respect of living there and feel at home. I understand that there are many reasons for mass immigration but respect for culture and people must be on top of the list if it is to work in the future.
