The Pope agrees with me.

by joebangles @ 13/12/2007 - 23:22:04

O K, it took him a wee while, but, he's a busy man.

I don't know how many words there are in my daily paper, thousands? hundreds of thousands? millions? I just came across two dozen that that I liked.

The Virginia Blackburn column, Daily Express, 13/12/07,

"Well done the Pope, who has just said that fears about climate change may be based on scare-mongering rather than hard facts"
http://www.express.co.uk/home

Nothing more to post really.

Unlike the hard facts that a virgin woman gave birth to a son who came back from the dead and now disallows allow poverty stricken people use contraceptives, because heavens awaits those who suffer here?

Not being a follower of the pope, or any one else actually, the fact that there are many millions that do listen to, and believe, his every word, makes my support for the minority, but sensible view, that it is a natural event that we have to learn to live with, not a man made catastrophe, over night becomes a majority view that may make it less easy for governments, and those making money out of global warming to con the people into paying more taxes.

I don't think anyone really knows for sure. But from a risk reward point of view, we can't ignore it.

Most of us take insurance, to cover unlikely events because the consequence of those unlikely events is too risky. It's the same here, I think.

If it is man made, or at least if man does contribute to it, and we don't do anything about it, regret and guilt may be our only way. But these two feelings are exactly those that the church loves. So whatever the pope says he can't go wrong

Not really a good man to have on your side, Trev...if I had him on my side...I definitely would re-look at what I believed HLOL...big hugs...

I think jen that most readers of my posts are aware of my views on all types of religion, what you may call a non believer, but, the many millions that do support him, and believe every word that he says, will now follow my views on the subject, it's a natural progression of hot/ cold over many millions of years that we must learn to live with, whilst, of course, still looking after our planet, the only one that we have.

I think there'll be a lot of very angry Catholics as well around who will totally disagree with him, as they do on his views on contraception...I can see that over the millions of years the earth has existed we've been through hot and cold phases, and that the sun plays a huge part in the temperature of the earth, and is currently in a very quiet phase, which could, I understand, go quite a long way to counteracting some of the damage we're doing to the planet, but I cannot agree with you that we aren't causing a huge amount of damage as well on top of what might be absolutely natural causes...If I go along with what you believe, it will give everybody carte blanch to carry on polluting the planet, cutting down the rain forests, destroying pristine areas as yet untouched by human exploitation, and generally living like filthy vermin as opposed to caring human beings...I think we need to believe it's us as well, because if we carry on multiplying at the rate we're doing and taking care of nothing, the earth will be severely damaged for thousands of years...big hugs..

I agree with your views on religion, and on global warming Trevor.
What makes him think he knows better than the rest of us, on both subjects? (The Pope, I mean, not you!)
