Don't.

by joebangles @ 11/03/2008 - 16:20:28

Don't do it, I did it today, yes, I know it was a bloody stupid thing to do.

Woke up early and by 9.30am I was sitting wondering what to do, house work all done, well, I had done enough to satisfy me, raining out there so no chance of getting in to the garden, I know, I will clear out a cupboard upstairs.

Then I found one, well, I actually found two, two large ex biscuit tins filled with photographs, not the photos that are stuck in the several albums, but others.

Every personal emotion in the book is contained in those pictures of yesterdays, every face that stares back at me has a memory. Faces I can remember, I can't remember the names of several of them and they were friends then. I can't remember the places, or the events, even the personal ones. I don't remember being there when I was 5 or 6 years old.

Many of them will now be dead like my memory. I am sad and ashamed.

Nothing to be sad or ashamed about - enjoy them for what they are. It's good to unlock feelings - it shows you're still alive!

Precious Memories

I have a box of treasure
Belonging just to me
Containing priceless souvenirs
And full of history

I have a box of memories
I only have the key
To unlock the many secrets
And reveal the mystery

I have a box that’s precious
In so many different ways
Crammed full of recollections
Of countless lovely days

This box cannot be stolen
Nor damaged by mankind
My precious treasured memories
Are here within my mind

I like that Marian, and thanks. Biggest problem is that amongst all those memories there are some that you can't erase.

Do you really want to? By looking at the bad memories the good ones are so much richer.

Yes, you are right Marian, but some of them make me feel very guilty, just a bad day.

It is an emotional thing, looking back over time like that.
I wonder about the future, when our descendants will be able to look back at DVDs ... moving pictures!

Isn't it wonderful to imagine that, I have some old super 8 movies that I took back in the 70s, now on DVD, great to look back.

I love looking through old photos, and yes they can evoke memories both good and bad, but they are all part of me, my life and what I am today. Can lose myself in them for hours.

Hi murph, yes, I was just having a bad day, some photos evoked memories that I had hoped were put behind me, I know, they just sit in that little compartment up there in your mind behind a closed door, by mistake I opened it.

Just use it as a reminder of the better times since and to come, and put it back in it's compartment of a bit of you that was but is no more.
